October 2025 Counselor Newsletter

Message from the Director

Hello Counseling Friends!

Happy October to you all. Let’s get down to business. The UC application filing period is open. We have seen so many students submit their applications THEN ask to edit their academic details. They cannot! For Freshman applicants the Academic History, Activities and Awards and PIQ tabs are locked and cannot be edited once an application is submitted. Please don’t make your students rush to submit. As a reminder, we don’t use submission date in our evaluation. In fact, UCSB won’t download applications until December, after the application deadline.

Over 500 of you applied to be external readers for UCSB, thanks to all who applied!

We hired roughly 120 external staff to help us review freshman applications. We selected readers based on experience (years of service in higher education), availability and school representation - large publics, small privates, in state, out of state, etc. Thanks to all who applied.

We have webinars and drop in Q&A sessions for your students who plan to apply this fall. Please share our events link with families. I once again thank you for your partnership. Connect with us if you have any questions.

Cuca Acosta, Executive Director
UC Santa Barbara, Office of Admissions
