Message from the Director

Happy spring to you all. In Admissions, we are finalizing our transfer decisions. We’ll post all transfer decisions on
Tuesday, April 21 after 3:00 PM PT. As a reminder, we
received 18,915 transfer applications. Our transfer trends:
more students taking coursework at 4+ universities, students
omitting coursework, and students failing to list dual
enrollment work they did in high school. This is slowing down our evaluation of transfer students.

On the first-year freshman front, we will continue to host Virtual Open House presentations through next week. I hope you'll join me for faculty lectures, two are happening today: Immigration in the Era of Trump and Transnational Studies. The SIR deadline is Wednesday, May 1. We want students to confirm or decline their admission within our Applicant Portal. Tomorrow, April 15th is the waitlist opt-in deadline for first-year students. It is also the appeal deadline. Please discourage students from emailing us letters of 'continued interest' as they cannot be considered. We'll review the waitlist and appeal submissions after May 1. I hope you'll join us for counselor webinars this month. I'm hosting my Ask Cuca counselor chat on Friday, April 17, at 9:00 AM PT. I hope you'll join me to complain, compliment, or clarify questions you have. | Register

First-year Updates:

  • Meet the Team: Two new admissions counselors have joined the First-year team! Yahir Baltazar will counsel students in the Northern California region, and Gia Guerrero will support students coming from the San Joaquin Valley. Along with Yahir and Gia, our entire team is excited to continue connecting with your students. Find out more about the team on UCSB's Meet Your Counselor webpage.
  • Appeals Deadline: The deadline to submit a first-year freshman appeal is April 15. The appeal is in the students Applicant Portal. We will not review any documents sent to us via email or sent in the post. Appeals will be evaluated and a final admissions decision will be posted by late-June. | Appeals Process
  • Waitlist Updates: Students who were offered a spot on our waitlist have until April 15 to 'opt-in' or to decline the waitlist spot. Any student who does not respond will be defaulted to 'declined.' Once a student opts in to the waitlist they do not have any actions to take. We'll email students when their admissions decision is posted. This will start in May and conclude by the end of June. Waitlisted students can appeal if they are not admitted, that will happen in June or July. | Waitlist Process

Transfer Updates:

  • Transfer Open House: Save the date and join us on Friday, May 8, 2026, for our Transfer Open House! This event is for admitted and prospective transfer students and their families! The day will include presentations, student panels, campus tours, and much more.
  • Transfer Appeals: Appeals can only be submitted in the Applicant Portal. Transfer students must share spring grades and a transcript with their appeal. Appeals will remain open through June to allow time for this requirement. | Appeals Process
  • Transfer Academic Update: Many transfer applicants never submitted a TAU or failed to respond to our request for transcripts. TAUs are required, even if students have no update to report. Students were denied if they failed to respond to two or more emailed requests for information.
