Santa Barbara

UCSB is located near beautiful Santa Barbara, California, a city of over 88,000 residents located between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara's downtown district features shopping, restaurants and cultural attractions like the Mission Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara is often described as the "American Riviera."

Health and Recreation

Santa Barbara's Mediterranean climate provides the city with dry, warm summers and mild winters. This makes Santa Barbara ideal for outdoor recreation including surfing, hiking, kayaking, golfing, swimming, biking, running and more. Fresh, local and organic food is available at weekly farmer's markets in Santa Barbara, Goleta and on the UCSB campus.

Art and Music

The city is also home to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara along with several other museums, many of which offer free admission. Live performances, concerts and comedy shows are put on at a variety of local venues including the Granada, Arlington and Lobero theaters and the Santa Barbara Bowl, an outdoor ampitheater hosting concerts from April to October.
